If you've spent your time developing the right branding for your organisation, then it makes sense to ensure that you have a clear set of brand guidelines in order to keep future graphic design 'on brand' and consistent. This will benefit every piece of marketing activity - helping to define web design layouts, social media accounts and digital marketing campaigns, as well as traditional print marketing.
So what should be in your brand guidelines?
These are the main areas that your graphic designer and marketing communications lead will need to cover as the guide is developed:
1. Details of your brand's vision, key values, history and any personality traits. This will help greatly with the creation of content.
2. The brand mission statement, with examples of the accompanying tone of voice. This section will be of great help to any future copywriters working on your account.
3. Details of your logo and the rules of how it can be used - for example, minimum sizes, rules for whiteout and mono versions, spacing guidelines and adjustments that cannot be made to it. The logo should be placed in example materials to provide context and explanation.
4. Colour palette which defines brand colours for primary and secondary elements and RGB / CMYK codes.
5. Details of any supporting design elements which can be used alongside the brand for specific campaigns.
6. Details of the type of photography that should be used, including where the photography can be sourced from, example stills of the brand's photography in action and details of image repositories etc.
7. Typography information for the font family and alternatives for online use where appropriate.
8. Example designs for corporate essentials such as letterheads and business cards to show how the logo and typeface works in practice.
I have followed these brand guidelines. What else can I do?
This will generally be enough to get a business started with new brand guidelines which can be further developed and refined over time. Valuable extras to consider include website and social media grid styles, promotional material design such as leaflets and posters, signage design and other materials. Include information about where these materials can be ordered or accessed if the plan is to reorder existing designs rather than start from scratch each time.
Continually follow your brand guidelines
Use these guidelines or 'rules' consistently and your brand will become much stronger as a result. Contact LS25 Web Design today for more branding and graphic design advice.
With another year in full swing, what are the main predictions for WordPress in 2018?
The platform is already one of the most popular website builders in the world, so which fresh features will users be able to look forward to?
1. A growing focus on mobile
Most bloggers and website owners now know how vital it is to have a website that is optimised for easy website use. Google has joined the conversation by talking in clear and compelling terms about the importance of optimising or even building for mobile devices. So WordPress are likely to start releasing more mobile-friendly plugins and mobile-oriented design themes this year to adapt to these changes in online traffic source. Those users that choose to adopt the features will likely benefit search engine ranking gains as they move their website forward.
2. Enhanced security focus
Cyber attacks and concerns about security breaches are hitting the headlines with increasing ferocity and most website owners know that it is a matter of when their site will be impacted - rather than when. Websites this year must ensure that they are making use of all WordPress security features in order to avoid the worst happening.
3. Video headers
These started to become prominent in 2017 and are expected to be even more widely adopted in 2018. Those websites that make use of video headers will naturally stand out for their engaging and aesthetically-pleasing moving header images.
4. Simple WordPress website builders
The use of easy drag and drop website builders will continue to grow, making it ever easier to customise your WordPress blog or website. WordPress is already the world's most popular website builder, so expect to see an explosion in drag & drop builders.
5. Greater emphasis on eCommerce applications
WordPress is also expected to release more eCommerce plugins in 2018, enabling even microbusinesses to have their own online store and to gain reach into new markets and increased sales.
With so much to look forward to in 2018, WordPress looks as though it will continue to dominate the website builder market with plenty to offer bloggers and website owners at all levels of expertise and experience.

Why you must consider Website Content, not just the design!
For many people, the first step in creating a website is deciding how it will look. You probably have an image in your head of a sleek website that screams "professional," but that alone won't attract customers. To get the most out of your website, you need great content.
What is website content?
Simply put, website content is what fills your website out. Think of your website as a blank canvas, where each line of text, video, and image serves as the artwork. The design of your website can make it easy to use, but nobody will want to use it unless it has good content.
While it's hard to make a list of every type of web content, here are some of the most popular:
What does website content do?
There are many different reasons to create content for your website, ranging from providing the visitor with quality information to ranking higher in Google search results for a given term.
The first and most important function of content is to give the visitor a reason to visit your site. You can do this by entertaining them, informing them, or providing them with something of value.
Web content can also help with SEO (search engine optimisation), especially in the form of blog posts. Written content can utilise keywords, proper formatting and more to help your website rank higher in search engine results. Shareable content also drives traffic to your website through social media channels.
How to get started
The first step in creating great content for your website is making the proper canvas. WordPress, a popular content management system, is a great way to easily add content to your website. Consider hiring a WordPress web design professional to make you a great website that's easy to update. As you're going through the process of creating your website, make sure you vocalise your needs—what do you need your website to do? A good designer can make it easy to keep your website updated with great content.
If you're looking for great web designer in Leeds, contact LS25 Web Design. We focus on providing high quality at affordable prices and we'll have your website ready to go in no time at all. Also, don't just take our word for it, check out our genuine customer reviews also on our Trustspot page.
There are a number of good reasons why you should start a blog for your business as part of your digital marketing strategy.
So why does it boost your digital marketing strategy?
Search Engine Optimisation
The first is SEO. Search Engine Optimisation is crucial if you want your business website to show up in a web search before your competitors and it is a key part of a business's digital marketing strategy. A blog allows you to include more product or service-relevant keywords in your content, gives you the ability to create external links and lets you add more pages to your website. All of which will improve your website's position in Google's search rankings. Higher rankings bring more visitors to your website and, over time, can lead to more sales.
Drives Traffic to your Website
The second reason you should be using a blog as a part of your digital marketing strategy is closely related to the first, that is it drives traffic to your website. If your blog has great content that people love to read then your website visitors will keep coming back for more. And once your blog has built up a loyal readership, it's just a short step to link them from your blog to your product or service pages.
Tells your digital marketing story
Thirdly, a blog humanises your brand. People like to see who is behind a company. They like to know the story behind the brand and who is running the business. Despite the Internet being an overwhelmingly digital marketplace, users who visit your website like to know they are dealing with real people. Blogging provides the human element of your online presence.
Helps you to grow your audience
Reason number four is that blogging is a great launching point for your social media. Twitter, Facebook and more are ideal for finding your audience and building your online reach, but you don't want to be posting sales pitches and product promos all of the time. If you have a regular blog then you will already have curated content that adds value to your online marketing efforts, and which you can easily publish across all of your social media platforms.
Thought leaders in your field
Last but not least, a blog will help you establish yourself and your brand as leaders in your field. It doesn't matter what you are offering, it's always a good thing to be seen as an expert in what you do. You can use your blog to share helpful content such as tutorials, how-to's, industry news etc., and when done right, your blog will help position you as a reliable and trusted source of information, leading to a boost in followers and traffic.

If you’ve finally decided to join the crowd of internet users that exhibit their content on online platforms built by the Content Management System giant, WordPress, you must be wondering what to expect from the biggest web building platform on the internet.
While the sales line that suggest you’re able to build a fully functioning website in a few minutes is indeed true, you must realise that it is not particularly easy to complete the whole design process of a website without basic knowledge of web design. Now, though some novices are able to use their intuitive skills with impressive effects, there are still many that struggle with the task of building and managing a WordPress website.
By following the guidelines explained below, you will be able to competently create and manage that WordPress platform of yours without experiencing a catastrophic result.
If you don’t know what you’re doing, hire a web designer
Many who rush to open WordPress sites without first evaluating their ability and proficiency in internet technology usually end up with sour tastes in their mouths due to flaws in their built sites that are not only glaring but also detrimental.
There is no shame in seeking the expertise of a web designer when you are about to commence a WordPress project simply because the process of designing the web platform can be difficult to discern especially if you lack the understanding of basic web mechanisms. Even those who aren’t novices in internet technology still struggle to carry out simple WordPress tasks like installing a plugin or modifying a web template.
No matter where you’re based in the UK, whether it’s in Leeds or somewhere else in the UK, you can always find a competent web designer that will be able to bring your WordPress project to life with awesome designs.
Never publish a page or post immediately
The importance of quality content and its pertinence to the ranking of a website is pretty clear for those who understand the intricacies of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and that is why the pages and posts of a WordPress site are vital to the success of the site. Hence, you must never make the mistake of publishing a page or a post on your WordPress site without properly evaluating and proofreading every element in the publishing platform.
The last thing you want is for a heavily flawed page or post in your website to be indexed by the search engine giant, Google; this may get your site penalised, which in turn is guaranteed to result to a very low ranking.
Always backup your WordPress site
When building and managing a WordPress site, you must always plan for worst-case scenarios so that you're never caught unawares when they happen. The worst, however, that could ever happen to your WordPress site is the abrupt removal of its content either due to technical defects or a malware attack.
It is important, therefore, that you back-up your WordPress site consistently in order to prevent the total loss of your site’s content when either of the triggering circumstances occurs.
Building and managing a WordPress site may look like a piece of cake; they, however, both require great competency levels before they can be carried out successfully.
