3 Web Design Tips for an Excellent Restaurant Menu Online Experience – Our Guide

Have you ever been interested in a restaurant and decided to check out their website for more information, only to be greeted with a terribly designed one? You’re not alone. There are plenty of restaurant websites out there that, although the restaurants themselves serve great food, the site doesn’t do it justice. Not only is a bad web design unattractive, but it will drive away potential customers and give the restaurant a bad reputation.

Are you planning to create a website for a restaurant? Here are three things to keep in mind to ensure that your website is easy to use and as informative as your potential customers need it to be:

1. Include Descriptions for Each Dish

Although adding descriptions of each disk won’t benefit directly in terms of aesthetics, they are still useful bits of information customers would love to know. In some cases, it can be beneficial for people with specific food requirements to figure out what they can or cannot eat. For example, some might be on a strict vegan diet, while others can be allergic to certain ingredients. By including a description of each dish, you allow people to have an idea of what to expect.

2. Imitate Your Physical Menu

In most cases, you’re better off creating a layout and design of the restaurant’s physical menu if it is already well-designed. This allows customers to familiarise themselves with your menu and know exactly where to look for what they want once they sit down at your restaurant.

The best thing about doing this is that the entire menu is pre-organised for you. All the food items are categorised into different sections, and the order of categories themselves are placed in a way that makes sense.

If, in any case, the menu hasn’t been designed or looks terrible, you can easily make your own by keeping to a few tips. First, make sure that the list is scroll-friendly. When your customers browse through your list, it should feel like the real thing, vertically moving through the different categories of food. Second, make sure that it is designed to be viewable and usable on various platforms. Whether the customers use their mobile phones or their desktop computers, your menu will be easy to understand and navigate.

3. Categorise Different Type of Foods

There are just so many restaurant websites out there that clutter food items together, so it is important to emphasise the importance of categorizing. If the restaurant’s menu is pretty small, you can keep all the food items categorise under one page. Make it easy to access each category by using buttons on the side of the page, and allowing scrolling through the different groups.

If the menu is extensive, consider separating specific types into different pages. For example, if you’re offering 20 noodle dishes and ten rice dishes, separate them into different pages. Doing so helps avoid customers feeling overwhelmed and having difficulty finding what they want.

By following the tips we’ve given you, you can easily design an attractive, informative, and easy-to-navigate menu that customers can enjoy using. Not only will potential customers be even more attracted to visit the restaurant, but they can also decide what they want to eat in the first place.
